oh, oktober!

Sigh. I’ve decided that October might be the best month of the year.  It comes guaranteed with warm Indian-summer weather, the first signs of relief from the crazy start of Fall semester at work, and plenty of festivities that include dressing up and outdoor fun.

October always kicks off with Heather’s birthday, which is guaranteed fun in the sun every year, inevitably ending with me letting lose on whatever dance floor is available.

Then there’s K-Baby’s birthday, which is guaranteed fabulous. This year, she went all out with the Oktoberfest theme, and of course, we took every opportunity to enjoy the Oktoberfest shanannigans, complete with dirndl costumes and keg games (not to be confused with drinking games, these just require an empty keg and an athletic approach).

I also discovered the Peninsula Oktoberfest this year with a couple of new local buddies.  Complete with real German food, local breweries, polka band, family-friendly atmosphere and really legit German dancers–and it was all most conveniently located a few blocks from my apartment in downtown Redwood City.  Even my favorite falafel food truck from San Fran came to town!

As always, the weather in October was fabulous and I managed to squeeze in some SUP time with Meg on one of the most sunny weekends in Redwood Shores.

And then of course, there’s Halloween–which afforded two more opportunities to dress up — as a nurse at work, and Rosie the Riveter with friends.

Now I know many folks are excited about the arrival of November–with  the autumn leaves finally turning burnt orange, and bustin’ out the scarves and fall wardrobe, and the upcoming Thanksgiving feasts.  But I say (as a true Italian American would) Fogettaboutit!  October is where it’s at!
