Urban Adventure #3: city holiday lights by cable car

This month’s urban adventure was in the spirit of the holidays of course!  Despite the frigid weather, I think Christmas is one of my favorite times of year to enjoy San Francisco.  It really is such a sight to see the skyscrapers outlined in Christmas lights, the streets adorned with holiday flair, and my personal favorite — Union Square.  And what better way to take it all in, then by cable car!

Luckily my “girls night” friends were all about the idea of doing this Urban Adventure, so I was in good company!  Our adventure began in Union Square, where we boarded our classic cable car and embarked on a 90-minute tour of the city.  We saw all the major sights– most of which I had already seen–but there’s nothing like seeing them in all their Christmas glory!

bonus: stopping at the Fairmont Hotel to check out the life-size Gingerbread house in the lobby!

personal highlight:  having the chance to do this with three amazing friends!  Last Christmas, I enjoyed a solo evening at Union Square during the holidays, which was fun–and the best you’re gonna get when you’re the new girl in town.  But I love how much can change in a year, and how God has given me such fun friends to enjoy the city with!  Shout out to Julianne, Victoria & Christy– you are all fabulous!

Review:  We saw other companies giving city holiday light tours in ugly open-air busses, but I personally think the trolley car is way more appropriate to SF, makes for better pictures and is simply more festive.   Plus, we got free Santa hats with the tour, the tour guide/ driver was very nice and was willing to take pictures of us.  The tour itself was fairly comprehensive– we drove through a lot of the typical sights of the city and also some of the less traveled neighborhoods.  And we got all this for quite an affordable rate, thanks to a two-for-one Groupon deal, which also made the whole adventure extra worth it!  Best $14 dollars I spent this season!
