Urban Adventure # 5 – extreme style

There are few people in my life that can successfully challenge me toward extreme adventure. I mean, I like adventure– but I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a bit of a wuss when any extreme conditions are attached. And by "extreme" I mean below 70 degrees with any kind of precipitation. (Yes, I grew up in the desert and it has messed with my inner barometer ever since).

Anyways, I’ve discovered that my friend, Meg, has this crazy ability to push me far outside my comfortable adventure box into the world of extreme adventure– and all before I even realize what’s happening! One day she asks me to go SUPing (which I would never want to say "No" to) and the next day I find myself in the middle of the Bay in a wetsuit, with no sunshine, temperatures well below 70 degrees, and (horror of all horrors) RAIN! But the craziest part was that we had a blast!!! Ten minutes into our paddle, my toes were numb and my fingers felt like fixtures permanently frozen to the shape of my paddle shaft. But by that point, I was having too much fun discovering the unknowns of paddling in tundra-like conditions, and quickly being distracted by talking about travel, clothes, boys, and matters of the heart and soul (yes, we are still very much GIRLS!). Not to mention, I got to test my new waterproof camera– which, in theory, seems like it would have been perfect for a rainy day on the water, but in practice, I found that raindrops on the lens are unavoidable and quite a hindrance to capturing a good shot in the rain. (Anybody know anything about a solution to this problem??)

Thanks, Meg, for inviting me to go SUPing and keeping me feeling young and adventurous!!! Wait a sec — it’s not just a feeling…I am young and adventurous! Hallelujah! πŸ™‚
